Here is some more great information for Low Vision Awareness Month.
Choosing the right font can make a huge difference in accessibility!
Here are some key font considerations for those with low vision:
🔹 Font Weight: The thickness of letters affects visibility. Bolder fonts are often easier to read.
🔹 Serif vs. Sans Serif: Serif fonts (with small decorative lines or “tails”) can make letters harder to distinguish. Sans serif fonts, which lack these embellishments, are often clearer.

The CESA 8 Vision Team is committed to ensuring students with low vision have the tools and support they need to succeed in school. Our Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) and Orientation & Mobility (O&M) specialists: 👓 Conduct Functional Vision Evaluations (FVE) to determine how a student uses their vision in the classroom and recommend accommodations. 📖 Provide Learning Media Assessments (LMA) to determine the best reading and learning formats, whether it’s print, large print, digital text, or braille. 🖥 Assist with technology and accessibility tools, including screen magnification software, large-screen devices, and specialized fonts to improve readability. 🏫 Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure students receive the necessary modifications for learning materials. 🚶 Teach Orientation & Mobility skills, helping students navigate their schools and communities safely.
