Nate Grimm and Dea Leisgang pose with Spectrum Awards at Slinger High School.

The Wisconsin School Public Relations Association (WSPRA) recently honored the Slinger School District and CESA 8 with three prestigious Spectrum Awards for a video series celebrating communication within the Slinger community. This collaborative project was led by Slinger High School Social Studies Teacher Nate Grimm and CESA 8 Director of Communications Dean Leisgang.

This marks the seventh consecutive year WSPRA has recognized Grimm and Leisgang for their impactful storytelling.

“The success of these video stories stems from the willingness of community members and students to share meaningful aspects of their lives,” said Nate Grimm. “Dean Leisgang’s exceptional talent for guiding interviewees, identifying compelling quotes, and crafting visuals transform these stories into authentic human-interest narratives. Students enhance their research and communication skills and gain invaluable insights into video production and storytelling, leaving behind a legacy for our district and community archives.”

The award-winning video series Communication in the Slinger Area: Past and Present featured inspiring stories about the Sign Language Club, the Authors' Club, the school newspaper, and alumni working in communication career fields.

The Spectrum Awards were presented during WSPRA’s annual conference on November 14th, recognizing outstanding communication and engagement efforts in Wisconsin schools. Entries were judged by school public relations professionals from 20 states, including New York and California.

“The dedication and creativity showcased in these projects are exemplary,” said WSPRA President Emily DeBaker. “These stories highlight the exceptional work being done to share the powerful narratives of our schools and communities. Recognizing these efforts honors the districts involved and inspires others to continue raising the bar in school communications.”

Dean Leisgang emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving such results. “Partnering with educators like Nate to create meaningful, impactful content is a privilege,” he said. “These awards reflect the power of teamwork and the value of sharing the unique stories within our schools.”

WSPRA’s Spectrum Awards honor high-quality school communication initiatives that positively engage communities. The organization is a professional association representing schools, school districts, educational agencies, and consulting organizations across Wisconsin.
